Delegation from the Sharjah Archaeology Authority Visits the Department of Antiquities

The Director General of the Department of Antiquities, H.E. Prof. Dr. Fawzi Abu-Dannah, received a delegation from the Sharjah Archaeology Authority, headed by H.E. Dr. Saeed Abdullah Al Naqbi, along with a number of Authority officials. The visit aimed to explore prospects for bilateral cooperation and exchange expertise in the fields of cultural heritage management and preservation.

The two sides held an extensive meeting at the Department’s headquarters, during which they reviewed key ongoing projects at both the local and international levels, discussed current and anticipated challenges facing archaeological work, and explored scientific and technical approaches to addressing them.

The meeting also included a presentation on key achievements and significant developments in modern restoration and conservation techniques used to preserve historic monuments. Particular attention was given to the concept of “inclusive tourism” and the importance of adapting and developing archaeological sites and museums to ensure accessibility for all segments of society, thereby enhancing the human and developmental dimensions of heritage sites.

As part of the delegation’s visit, a field tour was organized to several prominent archaeological sites in the Kingdom. The delegation had the opportunity to gain first-hand insight into Jordanian field experiences in site management, as well as ongoing archaeological excavation and restoration works. The visit reflects the depth of the fraternal relations and longstanding partnership between the two institutions, while underscoring the importance of joint efforts and knowledge exchange in serving and preserving the shared Arab heritage for future generations.
